WILLIE J HEALEY WOULD YOU BE

Willie J Healey has revealed his latest piece of slacker-rock in the shape of 'Would You Be'. The Oxford-based misfit has been quietly going about his woozy, alternative business over the past year, taking influence from the genre-flag-bearing Mac DeMarco as well as classic US storytellers like Bruce Springsteen or Lou Reed. This new cut - out now on the taste-making National Anthem/Columbia - is probably his most instant to date, growing out of its gently melancholy beginnings into an Alex G-nodding, lo-fi outing centred-around its simple but poignant refrain: "Would you be, would you be my best friend". A run of live dates, including brilliantly suitable shows with Hinds, follow this release and we're certainly more than happy to join the queue to be Healey's best friend. -G.O'B
